  • Carl Smith Center: Expansion at Scott Stadium
  • Virginia football is now one of the most consistently strong programs in the country. The George Welsh era has shown that it is possible to establish a winning tradition while keeping an institution's values and integrity intact. Today the Virginia football program is poised to move to a new level of competitiveness. To help make this happen, the University has embarked on a campaign to expand Scott Stadium to a capacity of 60,000 spectators.

On June 14, 1997, the University announced that alumnus Carl W. Smith of Charlottesville had made the largest single monetary gift in the University's history. However, to receive these funds the gift must be matched dollar for dollar with gifts and revenues from other sources. Contributions to the Carl Smith Center Expansion Project, can be made as an unrestricted gift to the University's Department of Athletics. As plans are finalized in 1998, further information will be communicated. For information, please call the VSAF office or Wayne Smith, Executive Director of the Athletic Capital Campaign, at (804) 984-9288.
