CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia athletics department will present three new 30-minute installments of "The Building of a Program" television show starting Friday, April 5 on Comcast SportsNet and Saturday, April 6 on Charlottesville Newsplex stations, WCAV CBS 19, WVAW ABC 16 and WAHU FOX 27.
The first episode of the spring 2013 edition of "The Building of a Program" will premier at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5 on Comcast SportsNet. The first episode will also air on Saturday, April 6 on WAHU FOX 27 at 9:30 a.m., Comcast SportsNet at 10:30 a.m., WVAW ABC 16 at 11 a.m. and on WCAV CBS 19 at 11:30 a.m. The second episode will debut on Friday, April 12 and third episode will debut on Friday, April 19.
Beginning in August, "Chasing Uncompromised Excellence," will replace the current Virginia athletics television show "Cavalier Sports Weekly." "Chasing Uncompromised Excellence" will air weekly from August-April. The program will feature behind-the-scenes access, interviews, and footage from practices, meetings, and games, and will profile each of UVa's 25 sports programs as they work to meet the athletics department's goals.
"Coach London and his staff are focused on the goal of creating a football team that is smart, tough and aggressive," Virginia Executive Associate Athletics Director Jon Oliver said. "Based on the questions surrounding our progress to date, we thought it would be important to show our fans the behind the scenes work that is being done to build a program that is consistently competitive and one that will ultimately compete for championships.
"We are also excited to expand the show beginning in August to include a behind the scenes look at all of our sport programs and their efforts to chase the athletics department's goal of winning 70 conference championships and 12 national championships between the fall of 2012 and the spring of 2022."
In addition to the all-access footage of the Virginia football team that is a trademark of "The Building of a Program," the upcoming spring episodes will include segments on UVa's spring practices, the new George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility and features on UVa student-athletes and coaches.
The Virginia athletics department debuted "The Building of the Program" in 2010 in support of head coach Mike Londonand the team's preparation leading up to his first season as the Cavaliers' head coach. Additional episodes aired in August prior to the start of the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
