Rookies Report for Preseason Drills on Monday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Head football coach George Welsh welcomes 24 newcomers to the University of Virginia on Monday (Aug. 7) as the Cavaliers begin their preparations for the 2000 season.

The newcomers will receive medical examinations on Monday and begin workouts the following day. They will also practice among themselves on Aug. 9. The upperclassmen are slated to report on Aug. 10. Full squad practices are scheduled to start on Aug. 12.

The Cavaliers open the 2000 season with the dedication game of the expanded Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium, against Brigham Young on Sept. 2. The game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised by ABC.

Virginia has been picked to finish third this season by media attending the annual ACC Football Kickoff at the Homestead in Hot Springs, Va., on July 24-25.
