Virginia Grants Junior Quarterback Michael Rocco Release

Charlottesville, Va. - Virginia head football coach Mike London announced today junior quarterback Michael Rocco (Lynchburg, Va.) has been granted his unconditional release. Rocco informed London that he plans to transfer following the conclusion of the current semester.

"After meeting with Michael and discussing his future with our program and his personal goals and interests I understand his desire to complete his college football career elsewhere," London said. "Michael has been an outstanding member of our program on the field, in the classroom and in the community. I appreciate the competitive nature, work ethic and leadership he brought to our program and I wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Rocco played in 30 games at Virginia, starting 21 times. He appeared in six games as a true freshman in 2010, started all 13 games in 2011 and played in 11 games in 2012, starting eight times.

Rocco threw for 4,731 yards and passed for 27 touchdowns and had 24 interceptions. His 2,671 passing yards in 2011 ranks as the fourth best single-season total in Virginia history. He leaves the Cavalier program ranked eighth on the all-time passing list with 4,731 yards.
