The Virginia men's golf team is currently ranked thirteenth at the Rice Intercollegiate in Cypress Texas. The golf tourney is being held from February 10-11.
The University of North Texas leads all teams with an even par of 288 after the first round of play. Northwestern follows closely behind with a score of 291 (+3), while Rice University, Texas-Arlington, and the University of Missouri hold the third position with a 297 (+9). UVa shot a 314 to place them in thirteenth.
Individually, Northwestern's Scott Harrington leads all golfers with a 68, 4 under par. Second place is held by three golfers, Northwestern's Tom Johnson, Missouri's Chris Happ, and Texas-Arlington's Jordan Krantz, with a score of 70 (-2).
Cavalier Senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) fired a 76 (+4) to tie six other golfers for 24th place. Freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) shot a 78 (+6), ranking 42nd. Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) sits in the 56th spot with a 80 (+8), while Senior Thomas Lee (Gluttenburg, N.J.) follows behind by one stroke in 62nd position with a 81 (+9).
Virginia continues play tomorrow in Cypress, Texas at the Black Horse Golf Club (North Course). The Cavs next golf tournament will take place February 23-25 at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.
