Cavaliers Move Up to Sixth Place at Burns Intercollegiate

Lihu'e, Hawaii - The Virginia men's golf team shot 8-under 280 on Friday to move up to sixth place at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii. The Cavaliers' 36-hole score stands at 5-under 571. UNLV continues to lead the 20-team field at 21-under 555.

UVA's second-round score was an 11-shot improvement over its first-round effort.

Junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) led Virginia during the second round, shooting 4-under 68. Walsh stared his day with a bogey and then played the rest of his round at 5-under par. Walsh is tied for 15th place overall at 3-under 141. Joining him in that position on the leaderboard is sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C), who notched a second-round score of 2-under 70.

UVA senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) are tied for 39th place at 1-over 145. Walker posted a second-round score of 70 while Poole carded a round of 72. Freshman WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) dropped back to 63rd place at 5-over 149. He shot 75 on Friday.

The final round of the three-day tournament is set for Saturday. The event is UVA's first tournament of the spring.
