SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Virginia men's golf team finished seventh at the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday. The Cavaliers' 54-hole score of 879 (+15) put them ahead of ACC rivals Duke and Georgia Tech.
Florida captured the team title with a nine-under 855. Clemson moved up to finish second by one stroke, 856 (-8). Oklahoma, the leader after the second round, fell to third with a six-under 858 after shooting a 295 (+7) in the final round. Oklahoma State shot the best round of the day with a seven-under 281.
Clemson's Matt Hendrix took home medalist honors with his nine-under 207. Oklahoma State's Tyler Leon followed by one stroke with a 208 (-8), while Oklahoma's Anthony Kim was third with a six-under 210.
Sophomores Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) and Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) paced the Cavaliers, tying for 32nd with a 220 (+4) each. Freshman Dan McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) and junior Kevin O'Connell (Potomac, Md.) followed by one stroke with a 221 (+5) each. Senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) rounded out the scoring with a 236 (+20) to tie for 80th place.
Virginia will travel to the Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 8-9 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
