Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Palencia Invite

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Virginia men's golf team finished seventh at North Florida's Palencia Collegiate Invitational on Monday.

Auburn led the field of 11 teams with a 880 (+16) for the team title. Georgia State followed by eight strokes with a 888 (+24), while Mississippi was third at 906 (+42). Virginia finished with a 921 (+57).

Individually, Auburn's Jay Mundy captured medalist honors with a one-under 215. Georgia State's Ty Harris followed by two strokes with a 217 (+1). Auburn's Will Claxton was third with a 220 (+4).

Freshmen Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) paced UVa, tying for 23rd with a 231 (+15) each. Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) tied for 29th with a 232 (+16), while freshman Dan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) fired a 235 (+19) to finish 34th. Senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.), who was second after the first round, tied for 40th with a 238 (+22).

Playing as an individual, freshman John Fizer (Trenton, N.J.) tied for 50th with a 244 (+27).

The Cavaliers continue their Spring Break tour of Florida with a stop in Tallahassee for the Seminole Collegiate on March 10-11.
