Dade City, Fla. - The Virginia men's golf team finished fifth at the 17-team USF Invitational that concluded Tuesday. The Cavaliers shot 4-over 292 during the final round at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla., for a 54-hole total of 17-over 881. NC State took first-place honors at 4-under 860, one shot ahead of South Carolina.
The USF Invitational was Virginia's first tournament of the spring.
Virginia was led by the 14th-place finish of sophomore Ji Soo Park, who shot 1-under 71 Tuesday. Park finished at 1-over 217, the best tournament score in his career. It marked the second consecutive tournament Park has led the team in scoring. He was ninth at the U.S. Collegiate in UVa's final event of the fall season.
Classmate Denny McCarthy was 19th overall at 3-over 219. McCarthy shot 3-over 75 during the final round. Mac McLaughlin was 25th overall at 6-over 222, including a 72 during the final round. Alex Lloyd placed 28th in his collegiate debut. He finished at 223, including a 74 during Tuesday's play. Nick McLaughlin was 52nd at 229. He shot 76 during the final round.
NC State's Albin Choi claimed medalist honors at 8-under 208
The Cavaliers return to action next week at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. The tournament runs March 12-13.
