UVA Grabs Early Lead at Palmetto Intercollegiate

Aiken, S.C. - The Virginia men's golf team grabbed the lead after the opening 36 holes of play at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. The Cavaliers posted rounds of 6-under 274 and 3-under 277 on the par-70 Palmetto Golf Club to finish the opening day at 9-under 551.

Junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) led UVA by shooting 5-under 135. He opened the day with a 4-under 66 and shot 1-under 69 during the afternoon round. He is in third place, two shots behind Augusta's Broc Everett.

Senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) are tied for seventh place at 2-under 138. Walker had rounds of 70 and 68 while Massie shot 68 and 70. Massie's opening-round total was his best single-round score at UVA.

Tied for 25th place are sophomores Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.). Both players finished the day at 1-over 141.
