Bard Helps UVA to Lead at Palmetto

Aiken, S.C. - The No. 3 Virginia men’s golf team is in first place following the opening 36 holes of play at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invite in Aiken, S.C. The Cavaliers posted rounds of 7-under 273 and 10-under 270 for a first-day total of 17-under 543. Clemson is in second place at 546.

Senior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) ended the day tied for first place at 6-under 134. He was one of four Cavaliers who finished the first 36 holes among the top-10 on the leaderboard.

Sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is tied for third at 135, junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) is fifth at 136 and freshman Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) is 10th at 138. All four of those players posted under-par scores for each of their rounds. Walsh posted rounds of 68 and 67, Walker went 67 and 69 and Orischak carded dual scores of 69, equaling his low collegiate score.

Freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) is in 73rd place after shooting 152. He had rounds of 74 and 78.

The final round of the tournament will be played Tuesday with teams teeing off at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring is online at
