Statesboro, Ga. - The Virginia men's golf team finished 11th at the Schenkel Invitational in Stateboro, Ga., that completed play Sunday. The Cavaliers shot 7-over 295 for the second consecutive day to end the 54-hole event at 27-over 891. Alabama, ranked No. 4, took the team title at 16-under 848.
Mac McLaughlin and Denny McCarthy led Virginia with 16th-place finishes at 3-over 219. McCarthy had the Cavaliers best final round, shooting 1-under 71. McLaughlin posted a score of 72 on Sunday. Ji Soo Park was 57th overall at 228 while Nick Tremps was 66th at 230 and Alex Lloyd was 74th at 232. Lloyd led that trio with a 75 while Park shot 77 and Tremps carded an 80.
Alabama's Justin Thomas captured medalist honors at 9-under 207.
Virginia returns to play March 24-26 at the Hootie @Bulls Bay Tournament in Charleston, S.C.
