AIKEN, S.C. - The University of Virginia men's golf team finished ninth at the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, SC. Rain and sustained winds in excess of 30 miles per hour forced the cancellation of the final round of the 54-hole event at the par 71, 6380-yard course. Wake Forest won the tournament with a total two round score of nine-over-par 577 (293, 284). Augusta State finished six shots off the pace in second place (583), and Virginia Tech (586), Kansas (588), and Virginia Commonwealth (592) rounded out the top five teams. The Cavaliers placed ninth in the 15-team field with a 36-over-par 604.

Coastal Carolina's Rafael Vera won individual honors with a five-under-par 137 with rounds of 71 and 66. Leading the way for Virginia was senior Cameron Yancey, who tied for ninth with a score of four-over-par 146 (75, 71). Junior Steve Marino had a two-round total of 151 (76, 75) and finished tied for 29th. Senior Mike Mitchell was 37th with a two-round total of 152 (77, 75). Freshmen Rusty Kennedy and Kevin O'Connell tied for 47th with a two-round total of 155, after both shot a first round score of 77 and finished the second round with a score of 78.
