UVA Finishes Fifth at Gary Koch Invitational

Gastonia, N.C. - The No. 45 Virginia men’s golf team finished fifth at the Gary Koch Invitational in Gastonia, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 3-under 285 during Tuesday’s final round for a 54-hole total of even par 864. No. 28 Kentucky captured the team title at 35-under 829.

For the sixth time this season, junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) topped UVA in scoring. Walsh shot 1-under 71 over the final 18 holes for a two-day total of 6-under 210. It was the 10th top-10 finish of his career.

Senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) notched a final-round score of 73 to end the tournament 22nd at even par 216. UVA freshman Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) improved to 29th place with a final-round effort of 3-under 69. He finished with a score of 218.

Sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) carded a 72 on Tuesday and was 38th overall at 220. Freshman WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) ended play with a 75 and placed 62nd at 230.

Sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.), who competed as an individual, had UVA’s best single-round score of the event, shooting 5-under 67 to improve to 20th overall at 1-under 215.

Virginia wraps up its regular season this Saturday when the Cavaliers compete in the Yale Spring Invitational.
