UVA Finishes Sixth at Gary Koch Invitational

Gastonia, N.C. - The No. 13 Virginia men’s golf team wrapped up its regular-season schedule with a sixth-place finish at the Gary Koch Invitational in Gastonia, N.C. The Cavaliers posted a final-round score of 3-under 285 for a 54-hole total of 5-over 869. No. 20 Auburn won the event at 18-under 846.

Virginia was led by sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.). He placed 19th at even par 216. Walsh had rounds of 71, 73 and 72. Seniors Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) and Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) tied for 23rd at 1-over 217. Bard had the team’s best final-round score, shooting 2-under 70 while Stanger finished with a 72.

Freshmen Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) tied for 39th at 6-over 222. Schaap was competing as an individual and did not count toward UVA’s team score. Junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) rounded out UVA’s scoring with a 54th-place finish, shooting 10-over 226.

Auburn’s Trace Crowe took medalist honors at 9-under 207.

The tournament was UVA’s final event before the ACC Championships, which are set for April 21-23 in Clinton, S.C.
