Virginia's Golf Team Finished 17th At Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, AZ - The University of Virginia men's golf team finished 17th at the Thunderbird Invitational at the Karsten Course in Tempe, Arizona. The Cavaliers placed 17th in the 22-team field with a 15-over-par 879 (290-292-297). Arizona State's team came back from nine strokes behind to win the Invitational at the par-72, 7,027-yard course on Saturday. The Sun Devils shot a 12-under 276 in the final round to finish at 25-under 839 (283-280-276), which is the second-best team score in the 29-year history of the tournament.

Anders Hultman of Oklahoma State won the individual title with a 10-under-par 206 (69-68-69). Leading the way for Virginia was junior Steve Marino, who tied for 29th with a score of two-under-par 214 (71-69-74). Freshman Rusty Kennedy tied for 69th with a two-day score of 220 (71-73-76). Senior Cameron Yancey tied for 87th with a score of 223 (75-73-75). Rounding out the Virginia players were freshman Kevin O'Connell (73-77-76-226) and senior Mike Mitchell (84-81-72-237).
