Annapolis, Md. - The Virginia men's golf team tied for first place with Pennsylvania at the Navy Spring Invitational at the Naval Academy Golf Course. The two teams finished at 31-over 599. The Quakers won a playoff between the two teams for the event's championship trophy.
After shooting 10-over 294 during Saturday's first round, the Cavaliers posted a score of 21-over 305 Sunday.
Mac McLaughlin led Virginia with a ninth-place finish at 7-over 149. He shot 79 during the final round. David Pastore was 12th overall at 150. Denny McCarthy, Nick Tremps and Ji Soo Park all tied for 20th at 10-over 152.
McLaughlin's finish was his fourth top-10 performance of the season and also marked the fourth time this year he has led UVa in scoring. Pastore's showing was his best as a collegiate.
Virginia's finish marked the first time the Cavaliers have placed first at a tournament since the VCU Shootout to open the 2011-12 season. The co-title was the 11th tournament title by the Cavaliers during head coach Bowen Sargent's nine-year tenure at Virginia.
The Cavaliers will compete at the ACC Championships April 26-28 in New London, N.C.
