Walker Leads UVA at Carpet Capital Collegiate

Dalton, Ga. - Senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) finished 31st to lead the Virginia men’s golf team in its first outing of the season as the Cavaliers placed 14th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga. UVA shot 15-over 303 during the final round for a 54-hole total of 903. Georgia Tech captured the team title at 14-under 850.

Walker shot 5-over 77 during the final round for a three-day total of 3-over 219. It marked the sixth time in his career he has topped the team in scoring. Senior Connor Messick (Oak Hill, Va.), playing in just the sixth tournament of his career, finished 64th overall at 228. He shot 75 during the final round.

Junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) was 68th at 229, sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) finished 72nd at 231 and sophomore Luke Schaap (Bethesda, Md.) as 76th at 235. Orischak had the Hoos’ best final-round score, shooting 74.

Redshirt sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) also shot 77 during the final round and placed 64th at 228 while competing as a non-scoring individual.

UVA returns to action Sept. 24 at the Rich Harvest Farms Invitational, the site of last year’s NCAA Championships.
