Newport, R.I. - The Virginia men's golf team placed 12th at the Adams Cup of Newport on Wednesday.

Michigan State led the field of 17 for the team title, shooting a 873 (+17). Texas A&M was second with a 876 (+20), while Georgia and Kentucky tied for third with a 879 (+23) each. The Cavaliers, who shot a team-low 295 in the final round, finished with a 902 (+46).

Individually, Georgia State's Kasper Jorgenson captured medalist honors with a four-under 210. Teammate Ty Harris followed with a one-under 213.

Senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.), paced Virginia with a 217 (+3) to place 10th overall. He shot two rounds of a one-under 71. In his second collegiate meet, freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) tied for 34th with a 225 (+11).

Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) finished 45th with a 228 (+14), while senior Thomas Lee (Guttenburg, N.J.) shot a 233 (+19). Freshman Eamon McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) shot a 241 in his first collegiate competition.

Virginia will participate in the Duke Intercollegiate on Oct. 21-22 in Durham, N.C.
