The Virginia men's golf team shot a 294 (+6) in the first round of the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions to tie for eighth place.
Cavalier senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) fired a career low 67 (-5) to grab second place. Freshman Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) shot a 74 (+2) to tie for 33rd place. Sophomore Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) is tied for 44th place after shooting a 76 (+4). Sophomore Craig Cook-Stevenson (Sutton-Coldfield, Eng.) tied for 56th place with a 77 (+5). Sophomore Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with an 82 (+10) to tie for 75th place.
The Swedish National team is leading the championship after shooting a 279 (-9) in the first round. Host Tennessee took second place with a 284 (-4). Georgia Southern rounded out the top three with a 285 (-3). Sweden's Oscar Hennigsson shot a 66 (-6) to take the individual lead by one stroke over Luce. Tied for third are Swedish teammates Jonas Blixt and Rickard Karlberg at 68 (-4).
Play resumes Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. at Holston Hills Country Club.
