Alpharetta, Ga. - Virginia senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) battled through windy conditions to shoot 5-under 67 and grab the first-round lead at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. Virginia completed the round at 1-over 289 and was in third place. Oklahoma finished as the opening round leader at 5-under 283.
Following birdies on his eighth and ninth holes, Stanger made the turn at 1-under par and then posted four birdies and five pars during his back nine to claim the early lead.

He shot 2-over 74 and is tied for 30th along with teammates Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.). Sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) posted a round of 75 and is in 43rd place.
