Gao Continues to Lead UVA at Golf Club of Georgia

Alpharetta, Ga. - The Virginia men’s golf team shot 6-under 282 during the second round of play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate and enters Sunday’s final round tied for 11th place with Texas A&M at 9-under 576. Wake Forest grabbed the second-round lead at 553 in a tournament that features 13 teams currently ranked among Golfstat’s top 50.

Freshman WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) led UVA for the second consecutive day, matching his first-round effort of 3-under 69. He moved up to ninth place overall at 6-under 138.

Sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) stayed in 25th position after posting a round of 2-under 70 on Saturday. His two-day total stands at 3-under 141.

Freshman Jimmie Massie also finished the day under par, shooting 71 and is in 40th place at 1-under 143. Senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) dropped back to 51st place at 145 after finishing his round at even par 72. Sophomore Ashton Poole shot 76 and dropped back to 72nd at 151.

UVA will tee off starting at 9:41 a.m. from the 10th tee during Sunday’s final round. The Cavaliers will be paired with Clemson and Texas A&M. Live scoring is online at
