Jan. 21, 2014

Charlottesville, Va. - Incoming Virginia freshman golfer Austen Truslow (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) won the Puerto Rico Junior Open on Monday in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Playing in the event for the third time, he took medalist honors by winning a four-hole playoff.

Turslow, who tied for second place at last year's tournament, had rounds of 70, 73 and 67 for a 54-hole total of 6-under 210. He began the final day four shots back but shot 5-under par to reach the playoff

The victory earned Truslow a spot in the PGA TOUR's Puerto Rico Open to be held March 6-9 at the Trump International Golf Club's Championship Course.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Puerto Rico Junior Open was a 54-hole stroke play competition featuring 72 boys, ages 12-18, from 18 U.S. states and 14 foreign countries, as well as eight players from Puerto Rico.

Truslow is currently the No. 7 player in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings. He won the AJGA Golf Pride and Junior Players Championship last year.
