Charlottesville, Va. - The Virginia men's golf team is in Hawaii this week to defend its title at the 42nd annual John Burns Intercollegiate. The 20-team field will compete at the Wailua Golf Course in Lihu'e, Kaua'i. The tournament runs Thursday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 17. It is UVA's first event of the spring season.

The field for this year's tournament includes: Arizona, BYU, Cal State-Northridge, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, New Mexico, North Carolina, Northern Colorado, Saint Mary's, Texas A&M, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UNC Wilmington, UNLV, Utah, UTEP and Washington State.

The Cavaliers' lineup will include senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.), junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) and sophomores Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines).

The Hoos won the team title last year, leading wire-to-wire and shooting 29-under 835 to finish four shots ahead of Texas A&M. UVA used an opening round score of 20-under 268 to grab an early lead on the field. Danny Walker, Jimmy Stanger and Andrew Orischak all posted top-10 finishes for the Hoos. Walker was third at 10-under 206 while Stanger placed eighth at 7-under 209 and Orischak was 10th at 5-under 211. Stanger had the team's best single-round score, shooting 10-under 62 during the opening round.
