Cavaliers Finish First Day of Play at Palmetto Intercollegiate Tied for Third

The 17th-ranked Virginia men's golf team is tied for third place after the first two rounds of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate taking place in Aiken, S.C. at Palmetto Golf Club. Virginia finished Monday's first day of play tied with Clemson at 11-over 571. Third-ranked Alabama leads the 18-team field at 565 while Liberty is second at 569.

Virginia used a strong second-round showing to move up the leaderboard. The Cavaliers shot 11-over 291 in Monday's opening round and rebounded for an even-par 280 on the par-70 course in the afternoon.

Three Cavaliers managed to shoot 1-under 69 on their second trip around Palmetto Golf Club. Ben Rusch, Amory Davis and Bruce Woodall all shot 1-under during the second round. Rusch is in 10th place at 1-over 141 while Will Collins is in 14th place at 3-over 143. Collins led UVa during the morning with a 70. Davis is in 21st place at 144 while Woodall and Ben Kohles is tied for 35th at 147.

Alabama's Bud Cauley used consecutive rounds of 4-under 66 to take the lead in stroke play at 8-under 132. A trio of players are tied for second at 138.

The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday. Virginia, Liberty and Alabama will be paired together and tee off starting at 10:40 a.m.
