Virginia Golfers Finish Second at Hackler Championship

Myrtle Beach, SC - The 17th-ranked Virginia men's golf team placed second at the 17-team General Hackler Championship at the TPC of Myrtle Beach. Virginia held an 11-shot lead heading into Monday's final round, but defending NCAA champion Augusta State posted a tournament-best round of 7-under 281 to capture the title. The Jaguars finished at 14-over 878, three shots better than the Cavaliers. Virginia shot 10-over 298 during the final round. Auburn was third at 890.

Virginia was led by the second-place finish of Amory Davis. He shot even par 72 Monday to finish at 2-under 214. It was Davis' best finish this season and marked the ninth time in his career he has placed in the top-10 of a tournament.

Ben Kohles and Ben Rusch also placed in the top-10 for UVa. Kohles was seventh at 4-over 220 and Rusch was one shot behind him in ninth place. Kohles shot 75 during the final round while Rusch carded a 76. Kohles' finish was the 14th top-10 showing in his career.

Will Collins moved up to 36th overall with a 3-over 75 during the final round for a 54-hole total of 231. Bruce Woodall was 55th at 236. Mac McLaughlin, playing as a non-scoring individual, was also 55th at 236.

Augusta State's Henrik Norlander won stroke play at 6-under 210. He shot 67 during the final round.

The Cavaliers return to play Friday at the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
