UVa Men's Golfers in Seventh Place at National Invitational

Tucson, AZ - The Virginia men's golf team is in seventh place after the opening round at Arizona’s National Invitational taking place at Tucson National. The Cavaliers shot 4-over 292 in the event that features 15 teams. TCU grabbed a big early lead, finishing at 13-under 275 to lead second place New Mexico and UNLV by 11 shots.

Virginia was led Sunday by a pair of even-par 72s turned in by Greg Carlin and Henry Smart. They are tied for 17th overall. Kyle Stough is 27th at 73, Will Collins is 45th with a 75 and Steven Rojas is 75th after opening with an 81.

Four players share first place at 4-under 68. That group includes Eddie Olson of UNLV, Robby Ormand and Jordan Woolf of TCU and Steve Saunders of New Mexico.

The second round of the tournament is schedule for Monday and the final round will take place Tuesday.
