Virginia Golfers Open ACC Championship Play in Fifth Place

New London, NC – The No. 21 Virginia men’s golf team is in fifth place after
the opening round of the ACC Championships at the Old North State Club in
New London, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 2-under 286 and are two shots behind No.
15 Clemson. Georgia Tech, ranked 17th owns the early lead at 9-under 279
while No. 22 Duke is tied with No. 32 Wake Forest for second place at
8-under 280.
 
Virginia was led during the opening round by Will Collins’ 3-under 69. He is
in tied for sixth place while Ben Kohles is 10th at 2-under 70. Amory Davis
finished at 1-over 73 to be in 24th place while Mac McLaughlin is 31st at
74. Kyle Stough is 54th after shooting 80.
 
Duke’s Adam Long grabbed the early lead at 7-under 65.
 
The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Virginia’s golfers
will start play at 10:10 a.m. and will be paired with NC State and Clemson.
