The No. 22 Virginia men's golf team posted the third best score of the day and moved up two spots to fourth place after 36 holes of play at the ACC Championships at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 8-under 280 for a two-day total of 1-under 575.
Sixth-ranked Georgia Tech continues to lead the tournament at 17-under 559. Duke is second at 8-under 568 and Clemson is third at 4-under 572.
Senior Will Collins led Virginia with a 4-under 68. He moved into a tie with teammate Henry Smart for eighth place at 1-under 143. Smart shot 73 Saturday after opening with a 70. Bruce Woodall carded a second round score of 3-under 69 and moved up to 18th place at even par 144. Ben Kohles shot 2-under 70 and enters Sunday's final round in 22nd place at 145. Amory Davis is in 49th position at 156.
Georgia Tech's Paul Hadley will take a three-shot lead into the final round in the individual competition.
He shot 68 for the second straight day for a two-day total of 8-under 136. Three players are tied for second at 139.
Sunday's final round gets underway at 8 a.m. Virginia's golfers will start play at 9:40 a.m. and will be paired with Florida State and Wake Forest. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
