The Virginia men's golf team will host the 19th annual Cavalier Classic at Birdwood Golf Course April 29 and 30. The 54-hole tournament will feature 36 holes of play on Saturday and a single round on Sunday. Both rounds will begin at 8:30 a.m. from the first and 10th tees.
The field for this year's tournament includes Belmont, Boston College, James Madison, Maryland, UNC Greensboro, NC State, Princeton, Towson State and Virginia Commonwealth. UVa will split to field a Blue and Orange team. NC State will only compete as individuals and not be a counter in the team competition.
Last year William and Mary captured the team title with a score of 28-over 892. The last time the Cavaliers took top honors was in 1997. Virginia has also won the event in 1995, 1990 and 1988. Gary Barton of the Tribe and Taylor Crosby of NC State tied for first at 2-over 218 in 2005. Barton won a playoff for medalist honors.
Virginia senior took top honors in 2004 when he was a member of the visiting Italian National Team. The only active Cavalier to win medalist honors was Simon Cooke in 1994 when he shot 8-under 208.
There is no live scoring for this event. Results will be posted on VirginiaSports.com after each round.
