UVa Golfers Host Cavalier Classic at Birdwood Golf Course

Charlottesville, VA - The 22nd-ranked Virginia men's golf team wraps up its 2011 regular season when it plays host to the 24th annual Cavalier Classic at the par-72, 6,875-yard Birdwood Golf Course Saturday, April 30. The 36-hole tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The eight-team field for this year's tournament includes Coastal Carolina, Delaware, George Mason, James Madison, Longwood, Maryland and Seton Hall plus several individual competitors from Liberty and Richmond.

Virginia claimed last year's title, winning the 36-hole event by 20 strokes over runner up Seton Hall. Cavalier golfer Ben Kohles claimed medalist honors at 4-under 140 while Amory Davis and Mac McLaughlin tied for fourth place at 145.

Virginia won back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008 and has won the tournament a total of seven times. The Cavaliers also finished first in 1997, 1995, 1990 and 1988.
