Charlottesville, Va. - For the 11th consecutive year the Virginia men's golf team has received a bid to the NCAA Regional Championships. The Cavaliers were awarded the number No. 8 seed among 14 teams at the regional championship site in Norman, Okla. The tournament is hosted by Oklahoma.

A total of 81 teams are competing at six regional sites May 14-16 with the top five teams and top individual (not qualifying with a team) advancing to the NCAA Championships set for May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

The regional berth marks the 22nd time since 1990 the Cavaliers have competed in postseason play. Virginia is looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the 17th time in its history. Last year, the Cavaliers were fourth at a regional site in Baton Rouge, La., and went on to finish a program-best 10th at the NCAA Championships.

"This is an exciting time of the year and given our play this spring and especially at ACCs we have a lot to look forward to," said UVA coach Bowen Sargent. "To play on the defending national champion's home course will be quite an honor and one that we're excited to take on the challenge."

The field for the Norman regional includes (listed by seed): 1. Oklahoma, 2. Auburn, 3. Arkansas, 4. Florida State, 5. North Florida, 6. Pepperdine, 7. BYU, 8. Virginia, 9. San Diego State, 10. Nevada, 11. Sam Houston State, 12. Missouri-Kansas City, 13. Navy, 14. Prairie View A&M.
