Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 46 Virginia men’s golf team opens play at the NCAA Regional in Norman, Okla., on Monday, May 14. The 54-hole event runs through Wednesday at the par-72, 7,452-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. Virginia is the No. 8 seed in the 14-team field. The top five finishers from six NCAA regional sites advance to the NCAA Championships set for May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

The regional berth marks the 22nd time since 1990 the Cavaliers have competed in postseason play. Virginia is looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the 17th time in its history. Last year, the Cavaliers were fourth at a regional site in Baton Rouge, La., and went on to finish a program-best 10th at the NCAA Championships.

Virginia’s lineup includes senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.), junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) and sophomores Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.). Freshman WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) will travel as the team’s alternate.

Walsh, the 2018 ACC Individual Champion and an All-ACC selection, leads the team with a 70.65 stroke average and has topped the Hoos in scoring in seven of the team’s last nine tournaments.

The Cavaliers are paired with No. 7 seed BYU and No. 9 seed San Diego State during the opening round. Those teams start play Monday at 8:25 a.m. CST from the 1st tee.

The field for the Norman regional includes (listed by seed): 1. Oklahoma, 2. Auburn, 3. Arkansas, 4. Florida State, 5. North Florida, 6. Pepperdine, 7. BYU, 8. Virginia, 9. San Diego State, 10. Nevada, 11. Sam Houston State, 12. Missouri-Kansas City, 13. Navy, 14. Prairie View A&M.
