UVa Summer Golf Update

May 24, 2007

*** Virginia sophomore men's golfer Kyle Stough will play in the Nationwide Tour Melwood Prince George's County Open that gets underway May 24. Stough qualified for the tournament Monday by shooting 69 to tie for third at a qualifier event in Clarksburg, Md.

The Nationwide Tour is the developmental tour for the PGA Tour, and features professional golfers who have either failed to score well enough at that level's Qualifying School to earn their PGA Tour card, or who have done so but then failed to win enough money to stay at that level.

Live scoring of the tournament is on the Internet at:

*** Incoming freshman Amory Davis qualified for the Second Stage of the 2007 U.S. Open Monday when he shot 75 at the Dupont Country Club in Wilmington, Del.

*** Will Collins, another UVa incoming freshman, tied for fifth at the 24th annual Scott Robertson Memorial Tournament held May 18-20 at the Roanoke Country Club. Collins, from Salisbury, N.C., had rounds of 72, 70 and 71 to finish at even par 213.

The Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament is a 54-hole stroke play event held in memory of Scott Robertson, a promising young Roanoke Country Club golfer who tied at the age of 14 as a result of infectious mononucleosis. This year's event had participants from 25 U.S. states and 18 foreign countries. The tournament is a recognized event by the American Junior Golf Association.
