Charlottesville, VA -- Virginia men's golf coach Bowen Sargent has qualified for the 2008 SunTrust State Open for the third consecutive year. Sargent earned his berth in the Virginia State Golf Association event by winning a 36-hole zone qualifier at Mattaponi Springs Golf Club in Ruther Glen, Va.

Just two days after his team finished 26th at the NCAA Championships, Sargent shot 3-over 147 to win the tournament by two shots.

 
The 2008 SunTrust State Open will take place July 17-20 at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian. The field includes 168 players, consisting of approximately half amateurs and half professionals. A 72-hole event, the field is cut to 75 players after 36 holes.
