Collins Honored by Observer/Finishes 4th at State Am

Charlottesville, VA - Incoming freshman men's golfer Will Collins has been named the Charlotte Observer's 2007 All-Observer Golfer of the Year. The award signifies he is the top golfer in the newspaper's 125-school coverage area, which includes parts of western North Carolina and upper South Carolina. Collins also is player of the year on the Observer's all-region team (for the coverage area outside Mecklenburg County).

This year Collins won the North Carolina 2A state title playing for Salisbury High School.

This week Collins tied for fourth at the North Carolina State Amateur Championship held at Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro. He shot 273 to finish one shot behind three players who tied for first. His finish exempts him into the 2008 event. Collins had rounds of 69, 64, 70 and 70 to finish at 11-under par. His second-round 64 was the low score by any competitor during the tournament.
