Charlotesville, Va. - Virginia men’s golfers Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) were named honorable mention PING All-Americans by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday (June 22). They join UVA senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), who was previously announced as a first-team PING All-American.

An All-ACC pick and PING East-Region selection, Bard picked up All-America honors for the second consecutive season. He was second on the team with a 71.44 stroke average. This season Bard had four top-10 finishes and won a tournament for the third time in his career, placing first at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. He was just the fourth men’s golfer in UVA history to earn all-conference honors for three consecutive years.

Walsh, a sophomore, picked up All-America honors for the first time in his career. He was third on the team with a 72.54 stroke average and posted three top-10 finishes during the season. He finished 28th at the NCAA Championships.

It marks the first time in UVA’s history the Cavaliers have had three All-Americans in one season. UVA was one of seven schools to place at least three players on the All-America squad.
