Aug. 29, 2012

Charlottesville, Va. - The Virginia men's golf team is ranked No. 22 in the Golf World preseason coaches' poll. The Cavaliers are one of five ACC teams to appear in the ranking. Georgia Tech is No. 7, Florida State is No. 16, Duke is 21st and Clemson is 25th. Alabama is ranked No. 1 followed by NCAA Champion Texas.

The Cavaliers return the majority of their roster from last season. Gone are seniors Bruce Woodall and Ben Kohles. Kohles earned All-ACC honors three times and was the league's player of the year in 2010 and 2011.

Among the returning players are ACC Champion Ben Rusch and ACC freshman of the year Denny McCarthy. The Cavaliers open their season Sept. 8-9 at the Northern Open in Chicago.

Virginia finished 22nd at last year's NCAA Championships.
