Cavalier Men's Golfers Open at Scenic City Invitational

    Charlottesville, VA -- The Virginia men's golf team will open the 2006 fall tour on Monday, Sept. 11, in Chattanooga, Tenn. competing in the Scenic City Invitational at par-72 The Honors Course.

    The 54-hole event continues thru Tuesday with the final 18 holes of competition. The first two rounds (36 holes) will be contested on Monday. The 19-team event is being hosted by Tennessee-Chattanooga.

    Cavalier head coach Bowen Sargent announced his starting lineup for the season opener and it includes two freshmen. First-years Kyle Stough and Preston Yates will be joined by UVa veterans Daniel Kefale, Greg Carlin and Daniel McGurk. Stough hails from Laurel, Md., while Yates is from Winston-Salem.

    Kefale is the team's leading returner in stroke play. He averaged 73.72 in 18 rounds last year, second on the team to departed senior Brady Tilley. Carlin only played in two tournaments last year and McGurk teed it up in three events.

    The field for the Scenic City includes Charlotte, Francis Marion, Furman, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi, Rice, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Texas-Arlington, UAB and Virginia.
