Cambridge, MD - Virginia sophomore Ben Kohles (Cary, N.C.) tied North Carolina's Henry Zaytoun for first-place honors at the Maryland Intercollegiate at River Marsh Golf Club. Both players finished at 7-under 206. Kohles' score on the par-71 course bettered his previous best 54-hole total by six shots.

Kohles becomes the first UVa golfer to finish first at a tournament since Brad Tilley was the medalist at the 2006 Cavalier Classic. Kohles' previous top finish was a sixth-place showing at the Argonaut Invitational last spring that Virginia won. It marks the fifth time in his career he has led the team in scoring and it is his third top-10 performance. He was 13th at last year's Maryland Intercollegiate.

Included in the 81-man tournament field was NC State's Matt Hill, the 2009 NCAA Champion and Male Golfer of the Year.

After shooting even par 71 to start the tournament, Kohles put himself into contention for the title by firing 5-under 66 during the second round of play. That score was the lowest single-round of his career, improving on the 67 he posted at last year's Maryland Intercollegiate.

The Cavaliers finished fourth in the 15-team field at 862. After shooting 292 in the opening round, UVa posted scores of 282 and 288 during the final 36 holes. North Carolina took first place at 849 while VCU was second at 850. NC State finished third, four shots ahead of Virginia.

Amory Davis was second in the scoring for Virginia. He finished 18th overall at 6-over 219 including a 2-over 73 during the final round. Will Collins was 23rd at 220 while freshman Gregor Orlando was one shot behind him in 27th place. Kyle Stough used a final round 72 to move up to 35th overall. Bruce Woodall, playing as a non-scoring individual, shot 1-under 70 Sunday to finish tied for 23rd at 220.
