UVa Golfers Tied for Third after 36 Holes at VCU Shootout

Richmond, VA - The 19th-ranked Virginia men's golf team is tied for third after the first two rounds of play at the VCU Shootout taking place at Hermitage Country Club in Richmond. Virginia posted scores of 1-under 287 and 6-over 294 for a 36-hole total of 5-over 581. The Cavaliers first-round score was the second best of the day. UVa is tied with VCU for third place.

UNC Wilmington grabbed the early lead by shooting 7-under 281 during Monday's morning round and followed that up with a 290 in the afternoon. The Seahawks' first-day total of 571 is nine shots ahead of second-place Wake Forest.

Virginia was led by the steady play of sophomore Ben Kohles who posted rounds of 3-under 69 and 1-over 73. He is tied for seventh place at 2-under 142.  Kohles' score during the first 18 holes marked the third consecutive round he has shot in the 60s. His opening round featured two birdies, an eagle and one bogey.

UVa's Will Collins is in 17th place along with teammate Amory Davis at 1-over 145. Collins had rounds of 73 and 72 while Davis shot 70 and 75. Bruce Woodall is 40th overall at 149. He shot 75 and 74. Steven Rojas rounded out the Cavalier team scorers with a 156 to place him 74th overall. Cole Willcox, playing as an individual, is 29th at 148. Gregor Orlando, also playing as a non-team scoring individual, is 64th at 154.

Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow leads the field at 7-under 137 that included rounds of 70 and 67.
