Cavalier Golfers Finish 10th at Fall Preview

Stillwater, OK - The Virginia men's golf team finished 10th in the 15-team field at the prestigious Ping-Golfweek Fall Preview which was held at Oklahoma State's Karsten Creek course. The Cavaliers were led by the sixth-place showing of junior Ben Kohles.

Virginia shot 306 during Tuesday's final round for a three-day total of 915. Oklahoma State won its sixth overall and third consecutive Preview title, leading the field at 878. UCLA was second at 882. Georgia Tech was the top ACC finisher, placing seventh at 892 while Clemson was 13th at 932, 17 shots behind the Cavaliers.

Kohles carded a 3-over 75 during the final round to finish at 4-over 220 on the course that will host the NCAA Championships next spring. It marked the 10th top-10 finish in his UVa career. UCLA's Pontus Widegren took medalist honors at 2-under 214. He was the only player in the 75-golfer field to break par.

UVa's number-two finisher was freshman Ben Rusch, who shot 230, including a 77 during the final round. He was 38th overall. Mac McLaughlin and Will Collins tied for 51st at 233 and Henry Smart was 68th at 244.

The Cavaliers return to play Saturday at the two-day Gary Koch Intercollegiate in Tampa.
