Notre Dame, IN The Virginia men’s golf team is tied for third place after Monday’s 36 holes of play at the 16-team Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic at Notre Dame’s Warren Golf Course. The Cavaliers posted rounds of 295 and 288 on the par-70, 7,023-yard layout to finish tied with Michigan State. Minnesota, ranked No. 47 in Golfweek, leads the field at 579 while No. 4 Arkansas is second at 580, three shots ahead of UVa and the 41st-ranked Spartans. Third-ranked Lamar is three shots behind the Cavaliers.

Junior Kyle Stough heads into Tuesday’s final round tied for first overall at 1-over 141. He shot 1-over 71 in the morning and posted an even-par 70 in the afternoon. Michigan State’s Randy Hutchison and Arkansas’ Andrew Landry are tied with Stough for the lead.

Cavalier freshman Ben Kohles is eighth at 4-over 144 after shooting 72 during both rounds. Amory Davis is 27th at 149 (75-74), Will Collins is 61st at 155 (83-72) and Steven Rojas is 65th at 156 (77-79).

Virginia was fourth at last year’s Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic. The final round of this year’s event gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday. Live scoring is on-line at Golfstat.com.
