Notre Dame, IN The Virginia men’s golf team completed Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish Gridiron Class in sixth place in the 16-team field. The Cavaliers shot 17-over 297 during Tuesday’s final round for a 54-hole score of 880 on the par-70 Warren Golf Course. Arkansas, ranked fourth, overtook No. 47 Minnesota during the final 18 holes to claim the team title at 863.

UC Davis was second at 867, No. 41 Michigan State was third at 871, Minnesota was fourth at 874 and No. 3 Lamar was fourth at 879, one shot ahead of UVa.

Junior Kyle Stough and freshman Ben Kohles led the Cavalier contingent with a pair of top-10 finishes. Both players tied for eighth at 6-over 216. Kohles shot 72 during all three rounds while Stough finished with a 75 after posting scores of 71 and 70 Monday. It was the first top-10 outing for both players this season and marked the second time the first-year Kohles has led the team in scoring. He was 13th overall, his previous best finish, at the Maryland Intercollegiate.

Stough’s finish equaled his best showing as a collegiate. He was eighth at last season’s Palmas Del Mar tournament. It was the fourth top-10 outing during his career.

Amory Davis, Will Collins and Steven Rojas all shot 75 for UVa during the final round. Davis was 29th overall at 224, Collins was 57th at 230 and Rojas was 60th at 231.

Michigan State’s Randy Hutchison took medalist honors at even par 210.

The Cavaliers return to tournament play Oct. 24-26 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn. It is UVa’s final tournament of the fall season.
