CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA--The University of Virginia third-=ranked men's lacrosse team evened its record at 1-1 with a 17-2 victory in Mercyhurst's season opener Tuesday at UVa's U-Hall Turf Field.

Cavalier attackman Tucker Radebaugh continued his hot scoring pace, with four goals and two assists(giving him seven + six = 13 on the year).

The Cavaliers scored the first six goals of the game, in as many different ways. Radebaugh had three goals and notched two assists in a 30 minute period to power UVa's domination of the Lakers

The Cavaliers' second-team All American midfielder David Wren opened the game with a long outside shot, just 1:21 into the game, on a feed from Henry Oakey for a 1-0 lead. TheCavaliers never looked back in a game which featured the top two offenses in the NCAA in 1997.

UVa ran the string to 6-0 before Laker attackman Jon Savage interrupted UVa's march on offense. After that goal, UVa scored seven more unanswered goals to ice the contest.

UVa's defenders stifled 1997 Laker leading scorer Bruce Alexander(no points), while UVa new-look offense of Drew McKnight, Jay Jalbert, and Tucker Radebaugh piled up 12 points among them. UVa took 77 shots to just 20 for the Lakers, dominated faceoff play, as Jason Hard, Cavalier ACC Rookie of the year in 1997, took 15 of his 16 draws.
