CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s lacrosse team returns to action on Sunday as the Cavaliers (4-1) open up ACC play against the Syracuse Orange (2-1) at the Carrier Dome. Faceoff is set for noon. UVA is ranked No. 11 in this week’s USILA coaches poll and No. 9 in the Inside Lacrosse/Maverick media poll. The Orange are tied for No. 12 in the coaches poll and ranked No. 10 in the media poll.
The Cavaliers and Orange are meeting for the 33rd time in series history, but are playing each other for only the fourth time as part of ACC play. Virginia has won nine of the last 14 regular-season meetings, but three of the five losses have come at the Carrier Dome (2011, 2013, 2015). The all-time series is as even as it comes, tied 16-16, while each team has scored 416 goals against each other over the course of the previous 32 meetings. These two programs won four combined NCAA titles between 2006-11.
Virginia lost the last two meetings with the Orange, including a narrow 14-13 setback at Klöckner Stadium in 2016. The last time these teams met in the Carrier Dome, the Orange cruised to a 15-9 triumph.

Goalie Will Railey is No. 2 in the ACC with 8.8 saves per game and is posting a 11.98 goals against average between the pipes. He is also saving 48.4 percent of shots against him.
Syracuse head coach John Desko is in his 19th year at Syracuse, where the Orange have won five NCAA national championships under his direction.
