CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Cavaliers (8-5, 0-3 ACC) conclude ACC play on Saturday against the Duke Blue Devils (9-3, 2-1 ACC) in Durham, N.C. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium. UVA is ranked No. 18 in this week’s USILA coaches and Inside Lacrosse/Maverick media polls. Duke is ranked No. 9 in the coaches poll and No. 8 in the media poll.
Live stats will be available at VirginiaSports.com. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, which can be viewed on the WatchESPN app, or by logging onto ESPN3.com. Ryan Craig will call the play-by-play, Jack Rowe will provide analysis and Rebecca Fiorentino will roam the sidelines. There will also be a free live audio webcast via Cavaliers Live on VirginiaSports.com. Luke Neer will bring the play-by-play and Doug Tarring will add color analysis.
Saturday marks the 81st all-time meeting between the Cavaliers and the Blue Devils, a series in which the Cavaliers own a 49-31 advantage since 1938. The 49 victories are the second-most wins UVA has against an opponent in program history, but the Blue Devils have won 16 of the last 17 meetings, including the last eight. Virginia’s last win in the series was in the 2010 ACC Tournament.
Michael Kraus leads UVA with 33 goals and 54 points. Kraus’ 54 points ranks No. 3 all-time among UVA freshmen, needing three points to pass Kevin Pehlke for No. 2 and needing five points to pass Steele Stanwick for the top spot. Zed Williams leads UVA with 25 assists and is second on the team with 48 points. Mike D’Amario is second on the team with 29 goals and Dox Aitken is No. 3 on the team with 28 goals. Ryan Conrad leads UVA with 61 ground balls, the most in the nation by an offensive player that doesn’t take faceoffs. Goalie Griffin Thompson is saving 50.6 percent of shots between the pipes and is posting an 11.86 goals against average.
Head coach John Danowski is in his 11th season at Duke and won NCAA titles in 2010, 2013 and 2014. Justin Guterding leads Duke with 27 assists and 58 points. Jack Bruckner leads the Blue Devils with 33 goals and is second on the team with 45 points. Joey Manown and Brad Smith round out the top scorers with 26 points each. Goalie Danny Fowler is saving 52.2 percent of shots he is seeing in goal and posting an 8.56 goals against average.
Virginia has a week off and will return to action for ACC Championship Weekend in Durham, N.C., April 28-30. After this weekend, the ACC will release the schedule of events.
