CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Mark Cockerton, Scott McWilliams and Nick O’Reilly were named to the men’s lacrosse All-ACC squad, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The team is determined by a vote of the league’s four head coaches. The accolades are the first career honors for the trio.
Cockerton (Oshawa, Ontario) leads the nation with 42 goals and a 3.5 goals per game average. Three times this season Cockerton has scored six goals in a game, including at Duke earlier this month. Cockerton leads UVa with 10 multiple goal-scoring games and seven hat tricks.
McWilliams (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) is No. 2 in the nation with 35 caused turnovers and has picked up 46 ground balls on the season. McWilliams is the first defensemen from UVa to be named to the All-ACC team since Ken Clausen in 2010.
O’Reilly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) leads UVa with 29 assists and 49 points. A 2011 NCAA All-Tournament honoree, he is No. 12 in the nation and No. 2 in the ACC with 2.23 assists per game. Four times this season he has dished four or more assists in a game, including six against Drexel in the season-opening game which resulted in ACC Player of the Week honors for O’Reilly.
The Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year will be announced early next week.
UVa returns to action on Friday in the semifinal round of the ACC Championship, hosted by North Carolina at Kenan Stadium. As the No. 4 seed, Virginia will meet No. 1 seed Maryland at 5 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPNU in HD.
