May 21, 2013

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Four Virginia men's lacrosse recruits that signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) for the 2013-14 academic year were named Under Armour All-Americans and will play in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic.

Incoming goalie Matt Barrett (Glenmoore, Pa./Malvern Prep), midfielder Matt Emery (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep), attackman Ryan Lukaovic (Syosset, N.Y./Chaminade) and midfielder Zed Williams (Silver Creek, N.Y./Silver Creek) are among 88 of the nation's top boys and girls high school seniors who have been selected to the sport's highest honor and will play in the eighth annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic on Saturday, July 6 at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md.

The quartet of UVa recruits makes 41 Under Armour All-Americans that have signed an NLI with UVa since the honor's inception in 2006, more than any program.

Barrett, Emery, Lukaovic and Williams join a UVa squad for 2014 that will have 19 Under Armour All-Americans on it, including Rob Emery, the older brother of incoming freshman Matt Emery.   Former Under Armour All-Americans Chris LaPierre (2009) and Mark Cockerton (2010) were named MVP of their respective Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic games.

Under Armour All-Americans are selected by a panel of lacrosse experts from Inside Lacrosse Magazine. The year-long selection process includes input from college and high school coaches from across the country as well as nominations from the public.

The selected high-school seniors will experience a weekend of events that begins on Thursday, July 4 and culminates with the Under Armour All-America Girls Classic on Saturday, July 6 at 5 p.m. followed by the Boys Classic at 8 p.m. The Under Armour All-America Boys Classic will be showcased live on ESPNU for the eighth year.

The Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic also includes the Underclassmen tournament that will feature the top underclass boys and girls players from the classes of 2014-2016 from 10 regions across the country. The three-day Underclassmen tournament culminates Sunday, July 7 with the girls and boys finals at 3:30 p.m. on the fields surrounding Unitas Stadium.
