Nov. 26, 2012

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va . - The Virginia Cavaliers are ranked No. 9 in the 2013 Inside Lacrosse  Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Top 20, the lowest ranking by the preseason publication since a No. 8 mention in the 2005 edition.

Defending national champion Loyola is ranked No. 1 after starting 2012 unranked in all polls, including the Face-Off Yearbook. The Greyhounds are followed by Maryland, Notre Dame, Duke and North Carolina to round out the top five.

Virginia is coming off a 12-4 season and an NCAA Quarterfinal appearance and is led by captain Chris LaPierre, the first solo captain at UVa since Steve Kraus in 1981.

Head coach Dom Starsia enters his 21st season at the helm of the Cavaliers and his 31st season overall as a head coach. Starsia owns the Division I record for career wins with a 341-122 career ledger. His record at Virginia is 240-76, an ACC record for wins. Starsia has won four NCAA titles at UVa.

The Cavaliers return to the field in January for the start of spring practice.
